Chandrakala from Chandrapur district, India is a progressive farmer. She has been an inspiration to many in perusing vermi culture as a tool to progressive agriculture. She has educated farmers including widows about the importance of organic fertilizers instead of chemical fertilizers that would save both time and money. She has also been a resource person in the agro based Entrepreneurship Development Program conducted by Indian Institute of Youth Welfare in Ralegaon, Yavatmal district. Her presence inspired many farmers during the program. Chandrakala says, “ I was never interested in farming but when I got married my husband encouraged me to go to his farm as he did not want me to work elsewhere. I used to work with the land laborers at our farm and gradually got interested in agriculture. Incidentally I also got to learn vermi-compost farming and it’s benefits. I feel fortunate that my life has taught me to pursue agriculture as a medium to help fellow farmers.”
