Photo contest winners: Education: A Universal Right » Grrrrlz up in the Corridor

This image is from a series of photo´s entitled, ¨The Corridor Kids¨. The project started as a self assignment for a larger body of work. These photographs are taken in an area of Toronto, Canada, know as the Jane & Finch Corridor. At the time is was a highly troubled area with drug dealings and everything associated with that culture. I was looking 2 find a more postive and uplifting vibe in the area due 2 all the negativity associated with the neighbourhood in the press at the time. So my work took me into the schools & school yards of the neighbourhood I was living in at the time, while at university studing Fine Arts and presuing a career as a photojournalist.
